Our field trip to Chehaw Park was a lesson in local wildlife and woodland survival skills for our elementary students. We saw and touched some animals native to the woodlands of S.W. Georgia. We learned to look for signs of wildlife and how to observe animals from a distance without intruding upon their space. We received pointers on how to hike safely in the woods; and on how to find help, or attract attention, when needed. Finally, we learned how to properly put out campfires. We enjoyed a wonderful fall afternoon of learning in “Ms. Marlowe’s outdoor classroom”.
November was an exciting time in our Montessori elementary
class. We had Picture Day, an International Festival, a food drive to support the charitable
work of the Lilly Pad, and Thanksgiving stories, crafts, and cooking activities.
We read the book
Stone Soup, and were reminded of the importance of cooperation. With
this in mind, we worked together to make homemade butter for our baguettes. We
also made quite an extraordinary batch of trail mix as a Thanksgiving treat to
share with our classmates.
